University student orientation

Interactive resource

The brief

The University of Edinburgh faced a challenge in managing campus orientation tours for the large number of prospective students, particularly international visitors. Traditionally, student volunteers led these tours, but a decline in volunteer numbers created a need for a scalable solution that would still deliver a high-quality experience.

The solution needed to reflect the university's prestigious brand, highlight the historic campus, and showcase the vibrant experiences available to future students.

As an additional challenge, it had to function offline due to inconsistent Wi-Fi availability across the campus.

The solution

I worked alongside Padlox Escape Rooms to develop an interactive digital guided tour to be accessed locally on tablet devices. This allowed groups of students to explore the campus independently.

The experience included puzzles and challenges related to the university’s history and student life, encouraging teamwork and problem-solving. The solution was designed to be scalable, allowing multiple groups to start at different points and synchronize their return to campus representatives through timed sessions, ensuring a smooth and engaging experience for both the students and the university staff.
